The project requirements were to build a finite element model using beam 188 elements in ANSYS and run a Response Spectrum Analysis to simulate earthquake motions. The analysis was undertaken according to ASCE 4-98 to ensure appropriate standards were met. The load cases included dead load, live load and Response Spectra input. Modal analysis was a prerequisite and captured more than 90% mass. The beam moments and forces were tabulated and subsequently applied to design code assessment calculations to find utilisation factors for the structural members and bolted / welded connections.
