There are numerous finite element analysis software programs on the market and some carry an enormous price tag while others are completely free.

You can often obtain a free evaluation licence for a time limited period or a node locked licence that puts a limit on the size of the model you can build. There are also academic licences at a discounted price for students and universities.

There is some open source FEA software that is free to download on the Internet but these are so far behind the commercial codes that they are not worth the effort required to learn how to use them.

Commercial FEA software prices start from around £1000 to £40,000 and above.
